Kimi: Ferrari will adapt well to ’09 regs

Thursday, 06 November 2008 00:00
Kimi Raikkonen is confident his Ferrari team will react well to next year’s regulation changes and come out fighting for wins in the new season.
For 2009 there will be a number of aerodynamic restrictions focusing on the rear of the car as well as the re-introduction of slick tyres and the all new Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). These changes are expected to mix up the established order in Formula 1, but Raikkonen reckons that Ferrari has a history of adapting well to such changes and 2009 will be no different. “Next year we'll be back to win again,” Raikkonen told Ferrari’s website.
“There will be new rules and many things will change."
“So it's difficult to say how it will look like in 2009 but I think that we'll be competitive again."
“Whenever there were changes [in previous years] Ferrari usually managed to adapt to them faster than all the others."
“We have to wait and see what our capacities will be and what we can reach in the next championships.”
The ex-world champion also offered his congratulations to Lewis Hamilton for his title success in Brazil and his commiserations to his team-mate Felipe Massa, who missed out on the drivers’ crown by a single point.
“I want to congratulate Lewis Hamilton,” he said.
“He gained more points than any other driver and the one who's leading the standings earns the title."
“It doesn't make sense to think of the "ifs" and "buts"; that only makes you feel worse and it won't change anything anyway."
“I'm sorry for Felipe: the situation last year was very similar and things went our way; this year it went the other way.”
