Valentino Rossi makes promising start to second day of Wales Rally GB.
After a character-building opening day, Valentino Rossi has enjoyed a promising start to the second leg of Wales Rally GB - gaining eight places during Saturday's first three stages.
"The conditions are better, not as much ice, so we try to go faster today," said Rossi this morning.
Rossi, driving a Stobart-run Ford Focus WRC car, has finished 20th, 17th and 16th in the three stages held so far today - moving him up from 24th (on Friday night) to 16th in the overall standings.
"I've made no mistakes. I'm hoping the sunshine will clear the frozen sections," Rossi stated during the service break.
The WRC competitors will now take on the same three stages for a second time, before ending the day with a short 'super special' stage held in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.
The rally concludes with four new stages on Sunday, when Rossi will be hoping to beat his previous best WRC finish of eleventh (in the 2006 Rally of New Zealand.
