Nadal salutes successful Spain

Tuesday 25th November 2008
Rafael Nadal hailed his Spain team-mates' achievement after watching their Davis Cup final win in Argentina on television. World number one Nadal missed the final in Mar del Plata after suffering a knee injury. But he kept tabs on Spain's progress throughout the weekend and was delighted by their 3-1 victory, clinched by Fernando Verdasco's singles win over Jose Acasuso on Sunday.
"It's impossible for me to be happier," said Nadal, who admitted nervously watching the decisive rubber.
"The guys have done something impressive, winning away in Argentina."
"It's tougher than our two Davis Cups at home (Barcelona 2000 and Seville 2004)."
"I'm so happy for them. They really deserved it."
"It's a pain for me not to be able to be there, but I'm embracing my team-mates."
"They have made more history in a spectacular way. This is something extraordinary."
