MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi plans to lay some ghosts to rest in the final race of the season at Valencia. The Fiat Yamaha rider lost the 2006 title to Nicky Hayden after crashing at Valencia and last year also failed to finish as Dani Pedrosa took second place from him. But after winning nine of the 17 races so far this season to romp to his sixth championship the 29-year-old is planning on putting those memories behind him.
He said: "I have had two bad years at Valencia and I have some memories I would like to forget with a good result there this year - I have an account to settle!"
"In 2006 I crashed and lost the championship and then last year I broke my hand and lost second place in the championship."
"It's not the best track for us but I won there with Yamaha in my first year with them and I would like to do the same again this weekend."
"It's been a fantastic season and the win last Sunday in Malaysia was great, but I am not finished yet and I want to reward my team, Yamaha and Bridgestone for a fantastic season with the best possible result on Sunday. Then we can all celebrate with a big party."
Hayden rides his last ever race for Repsol Honda before joining deposed champion Casey Stoner at Ducati next season. Stoner will take part in a two-day test on the 2009 bike immediately after Sunday's race before undergoing surgery on his injured wrist in a bid to mount a title challenge next year. British rider James Toseland has enjoyed a successful debut season aboard his Tech 3 Yamaha and is hoping for another solid display at a circuit he is familiar with from his World Superbike career. The Sheffield-born rider put in the ride of his season two races ago in Australia but followed it up with an early crash at Sepang last weekend.
